Computers are too expensive to a large portion of the world’s population. Next Thing Co. is trying to give everyone access to a computer by making a dirt cheap one.

It doesn’t look like much but CHIP really is a computer, and it is only $9. It comes with a USB drive, mini USB, audio/video output, microphone input, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 4GB nano flash, and 1 Ghz processor. CHIP runs any Linux based distribution and can be plugged into a TV or monitor. Additional shields can be purchased that allows you to plug it in using VGA or HDMI. CHIP was designed with the goal of giving anyone who would like to use a computer access to one. It is completely open source, which means anyone can download the schematics and make their own CHIP.
