What’s it like being in a bitcoin mine? Tour the inner workings of one of the world’s most successful and secretive bitcoin mines, meet the owner, and see the “miners” themselves.
This bitcoin mine in rural northeast China is part of a larger operation of six mines that together, at the time of this video, account for three percent of the world’s total bitcoin network, the equivalent of $1.5 million dollars a month. Each mine has thousands of “miners,” computers assigned a cryptography task (a puzzle) that, when completed, earns bitcoins. Not surprisingly, the energy consumption of the Bitcoin mine is massive. The monthly electricity bill is about $80,000. Because the mining operation never stops, a full staff needs to be on site 24/7.
